Can you feel the wetness of rocks under his moccasins? Hear the rushing water pouring over the heights of the cliff? The mist in the air gives immediacy to each movement. With deftness the canoe is poised. The silence of the forest embraces all.

“In ‘witnessing’ human beings, acting in harmony with an environment, there are to be found messages within the feelings I have. This may be what inspires me to sculpt ”life”. I once was left spellbound watching a man in a field with the shovel. The pregnant woman hanging laundry (with wind blown sheet against her belly) took my breath away. As I watched an old couple eating in silence at Dairy Queen, compassion was what I felt. To “see” what is not there physically and capture ‘that’ in bronze is ‘the miracle’ I look for.

I once heard it said….”It is never about the other person”. I ask myself, “If I feel a thing, where did it come from within? What well of ‘the past’ am I drawing from?
